The former Thornton Liberal Club Roll of Honour and War Memorial

The building which was Thornton Liberal Club became Downs, Coulters Social Club, is now Branwell House Social Club. The war memorial there covered the First World War, and was unveiled by the Revd. A. H. Tollitt, the vicar of Thornton, in September 1921. An article in the Yorkshire Observer of Saturday 23rd of April, or July, 1921 refers to the memorial. 90 members enlisted for service, 8 were killed. The names of all who served are inscribed in gold on a mural tablet of polished oak, cut to represent a scroll. The memorial is lost.

It is likely to have included in the list of those killed the following 3 names, all of whom are remembered on Thornton War Memorial, and are known to have been members of Thornton Liberal Club:

Harry H. Craven
