Eddie’s Corner

The area which is now “Eddie’s Corner” was a piece of waste land owned by Bradford Council which had become a real “grot spot”.  It’s at the northern end of Kipping Lane adjoining what was Brontë Hair Fashions, but was later JJ’s Bar and then the Bronte (sic) Nook, a cocktail bar, which has closed down.  Members of Thornton in Bloom and residents, led by the late Councillor Valerie Binney, took it upon themselves to clear up the area.  Bradford Council provided a litter bin and planters, and a seat was donated. A plaque was put up dedicating the area as Eddie’s Corner in memory of Eddie North, BEM,  the founding Chairman of Thornton Antiquarian Society, and earlier a volunteer Youth worker.  The photographs show Eddie’s Corner, and the late Councillor Binney with Jean Nelis when the plaque was installed.

The land is a public open space within the Conservation Area.  (Updated 14 April 2024)
