MAY 25 SATURDAY

NOTEIN ALLERTON CIVIL PARISH To commemorate Pakistan Independence Day a Tent-pegging contest has been held at the weekend in 2021 and 2022, on the field opposite the former Duke of York pub. It may be happening this year, The field is in Allerton civil parish. The boundary between Thornton and Allerton is Pitty Beck. Tent pegging is a sport originating in India of riding a horse at a charging pace and endeavouring to uproot on the point of a lance a tent peg in the ground. The last one near to Bradford was cancelled because of the wet ground due to the weather, I check regularly the national and Bradford neza bazi sites.

11am for 60 to 90 minutes. Monthly family cookery class, led by the Rock and Heifer, at Thornton Community Centre, Market Street. “We have our monthly cookery class from 11am. £2 contribution from each family. The other costs are funded by the community centre. All the ingredients and cooking equipment is provided and you are able to take your food home to enjoy with your family. Please message this Facebook page directly with how many people wish to attend, contct number, and ages of any children coming.”

10am to 12noonLitter-Pick day, the 1st Saturday of the month, so let’s make a good start to the New Year by helping to make Thornton that little bit tidier.  As always the litter-pick is organised by Sapgate Gardens volunteers and the local Civil Service Sports and Leisure group and run from the Community Centre (look out for the banner).  Litter-pickers and bags are available as are warm drinks and biscuits. (If you can’t make it and have seen a particularly ‘grotty’ area, put a note up here and we’ll direct people to it). Thanks.  As always, Kate’s ‘Pop-up Shop’ will be there, selling jams, marmalades, chutneys and honey, cards and dishcloths.
