Community Centre ( Community managed)
- Thornton Community Centre opened in 1969 and is on Market Street between Market Court and Craven Avenue (the road to the Medical Centre). The official address of the Community Centre is Thornton Community Centre, Market Street, Thornton, Bradford, BD13 3HW. Thornton Community Centre also have a Facebook page.
- Thornton Community Library, which is now voluntary managed and run, forms part of the Community Centre building.
- The Community Centre is run by a voluntary management committee which is also a registered charity, leased from the Council.
- Various groups use the main hall of the Community Centre. Their website is currently not up to date, but all groups at the centre are shown on this website at Regular events on each day of the week, including those at the Community Centre. Councillors (Bradford Council) (see also Local Government heading below)
Thornton is part of Thornton and Allerton Ward which includes Sandy Lane. Councillors are elected for 4 years, and then may seek re-election,. or stand down. Council Elections are held in 3 out of every 4 years. In the 4th year there used to be Metropolitan County Council elections, until that Council was abolished in 1986. Council elections are normally held on the first Thursday in May. Once elected a councillor has a duty to serve all residents, whether or not they voted, and irrespective of how they voted. Local Government
- Thornton does not have a Parish Council.
- There are 3 councillors elected to represent Thornton and Allerton Ward of the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council, see Councillors (Bradford Council) heading (above). The ward also includes Sandy Lane.
- At a higher level than Bradford Council is the West Yorkshire Combined Authority. Most members of the Authority are not elected to it, but are councillors appointed by and from the 5 metropolitan areas (Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield), and the Chair of the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership Board, who was elected by members of that Board.

Thornton Community Centre: Thornton Community Centre will be open every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am – 5pm as a designated Warm Space. Call in to stay warm, enjoy free hot drinks, take advantage of our wi-fi and meet up with others.
