All About Thornton

All adult home fixtures, on Saturdays and Sundays can be viewed live, and afterwards on Thornton Cricket Club’s YouTube channel. All home fixtures are shown in the Diary of events. The Cricket Field is on Hill Top Road.  There are 3 adult teams which all play in the Halifax Cricket League, and active Junior Teams, For details of the adult teams’ achievements, see after the list of teams. Comments on the Junior teams will be added soon,

• The First XI  play in the Premier Division 1st XI, on Saturdays.

• The 2nd XI play in the First Division 2nd XI, on Saturdays.

• The 3rd XI play on Sundays, in Sunday League Division 4.

• Thornton Midweek team play in the Bradford and District Evening League, normally on Wednesday evenings.

• The mixed junior teams playing in the Halifax Junior Cricket League in 2026 are:
  • Under 9s
  • Under 11s
  • Under 13s
  • Under 15s
  • Under 18s
  • Under 12 Girls Team play in the Upper Airedale Junior Cricket League, Girls Softball Championship, and came 6th out of 8 teams in their first year as a team.

The Club publish a regular monthly newsletter, Tough at the (Hill) Top, on their Facebook page.

• In 2026 the The 1st XI were Champions of the Premier Division 1st XIs, and won the Shibden Mill Inn T20 Trophy by beating Illingworth St Mary’s Cricket Club, by 50 runs, (Thornton were 226 for 3 in their 20 overs, Illingworth St Mary’s were 176 for 9 in their 20 overs.) Charlie Palmer, following his 92 not out, received the Player-of-the-Final award. Thornton won the Trophy for a record fourth time, in the 21^st year of the competition, and it was presented to its captain Richie Wear by Max Heaton, director of the sponsors, The Shibden Mill Inn.  Thornton entered the Briggs Priestley Parish Cup run by the Halifax Cricket League, but were knocked out early on.

• In 2025 the First XI came 2nd out of 12 teams, 33 points behind Booth. They won the T20 competition by beating Upper Hopton by 2 wickets. They entered the national Village cup competition and reached the quarter final, losing to Staley CC from Cheshire. Staley CC also won their sem-final match, but lost in the Final to Foxton Granta Cricket Club from Cambridgeshire.

• In 2024 they, once again, became Champions of the Premier Division 1st XIs, and won the Parish Cup.

• In August 2024 they beat Illingworth St. Mary’s CC by 7 wickets in the Parish Cup Final. See photo below. Illingworth were 182 for 7 wickets in their allotted 45 overs; Thornton were 186 for 3, in fewer overs.

• In 2023 they finished Champions of the Premier Division 1st XIs, out of 12 teams, 35 points ahead of the 2nd team in the Premier Division, unbeaten that year, and also won the T20 Cup and the Parish Cup. This was the first time any team has won the treble.

• They won the Parish Cup by beating Illingworth St. Mary’s by 16 runs on 13 August 2023

• In 2022 the First XI finished 5th in the Premier League.

• 2nd XI play in the First Division 2nd XIs, on Saturdays.
• In 2026 they finished 3rd, out of 10 teams, only 5 points away from promotion. They also played in the Orox Crossley Shield, but were knocked out in the first round .
• In 2025 they finished 6th out of 11 teams
• In 2024 they finished 3rd of 8 teams.
• In 2023 they finished 3rd out of 8 teams.
• In 2022 they finished 4th out of 8 teams.

• The 3rd team play on Sundays, in Sunday Division 4.
• In 2026 they finished 3rd out of 14 teams, being 30 points behind the second team in the division.
• In 2025 they finished 9th out of 10 teams and were relegated back to the 4th Sunday Division.
• In 2024 they finished 2nd of 9 teams and were promoted to the 3rd Sunday Division for the 2025 season.
• In 2023 they finished 6th out of 7 clubs.
